It appears someone is trying to set up a honey extraction collective in central London.

Worthwhile? Or is carrying a full super around on public transport going to be more of a faff than borrowing an extractor?

Looks to me more like they are wanting to buy in honey on the comb and then sell it themselves ...
We process and market London honey, giving beekeepers a fair and guaranteed price.

Specialisation is the way to increase productivity.

We are seeing already that less and less beekeepers make their own equipment (hives, frames etc.) It is cheaper to do it with modern machinery.

Maybe this attempt is not the best one but I believe in the future we will see honey extraction and packaging as a service and beekeepers can spend their time on things they are best at: keeping bees.

Itma I think you're jumping to conclusions - it clearly says their payment is a couple of jars from each beekeeper.

Sorry itma - now I'm jumping to conclusions - it actually says "In return it wants a small amount of honey as payment. It will sell this honey and use the profits to invest in what it says is its core business"

As they expect hives to have an average of 20lbs harvest i assumed that a couple of jars would be reasonable

Yes that is what the Guardian blog says.
But the blog links to the one-page website of the Bee Collective (which I linked explicitly) where you will find the entirely different line that I quoted above.

They "launched" on Thursday, and the principal conclusion that I have jumped to is that they aren't entirely clear what they are going to do.
Perhaps they themselves don't know yet?
