Cloake Board Method question?

If you don't use artificial insemination (Or its tools), and instead just use queen cups, how does that modify the steps in the Cloake Board method? (And does it add extra days to the process?)

I think you are completely missing the point here. Artificial insemination is purely used to fertilise queens' eggs which she will still need to lay in a cell for the beekeeper to be able to use. AI is usually done to breed true to a race or have particular traits that may be hit and miss with open mating. These queens are then usually used as 'breeder queens'. AI has noting to do with a queen rearing method. Regardless whether the donor queen has been artificially inseminated or open mated the process to raise queens remain the same using any method. You need to use a fertilised egg that has been laid by a queen.

Although the term Artificial Insemination (AI) is often used, the correct terminology with bees is Instrumental Insemination, I think the latter is specific to bees whereas AI is used with all other creatures.

Correct...Rearing queens comes first and foremost. II (Murox is correct...it's Instrumental Insemination by the way) is the process of inseminating a virgin queen with drone semen whilst she is under the influence of CO2 (A bit like date rape).
It is correct that this method of mating is generally used to produce breeder queens such that the genetics run pure. Known queen genetics + known drone genetics.

I think the answer the OP was looking for is that Instrumental Insemination makes no difference to the timing or method of producing a virgin queen using a Cloake board, or any other method. It is really only relevant once the queen emerges from its cell as you will want to cage the virgin queen in some way to prevent her flight (and undesired mating)
