winter storage in the garage of my new built hives and a few spare crown boards has led to some surface mould on some of the bare timber and also some that has been treated. What's best to wipe this down with?

A waste of time just getting rid of it by wiping.

Simply storing dry is the cure for the disease (wiping down is just treating the symptoms).

A quick run over with a blow torch is what I would do

And then if they are damp I would make sure they haven't warped.
Blooming nuisance warped cover boards!

If they are warped, leave them outside in the rain to get soaked (shouldn't be too hard to achieve that) put between two boxes (supers, broods, deeps, Shallows jumbos whatever) whilst still damp and tighten everything up with a couple of hive straps and leave to dry naturally - seems to work with even the most terminal looking of warps

surprising how much moisture is in the air. All my unused hives are upstairs in my garage which is unheated and only has powder coated steel sheeting roof.
