They import honey from many different parts of the world, as do other honey packers, looks good, and retailing at a reasonable price in Aldi by the look of it.

Complete with bogus cooking advice "for Asian recipes"
What next Danish honey to glaze bacon?, French honey on crepes, Manuka on New Zealand lamb?

derekm - why wouldn't one use appropriate honey for particular dishes.

we all bang on about authentic local produce etc etc.

if trying to recreate a particular recipe perhaps use of a honey as locals would use is the way to go. if a recipe calls for acacia honey what else can you do.

Not in anyway supporting cheap foreign imports to the UK.

after all you wouldn't grate english cheddar onto a pasta dish.

I thought the UK or EU had banned the importation of Chinese honey due to the medicines used by their beeks?

They did, about 13 years ago, but the ban was not put in place forever.

UK produced honey has also been found to have medicines in.

What is distinctive about generic cheap Chinese honey.? How about scope?
Where is the distinction in lumping in every nectar and flower from the Russian border to Hong kong from the Pacific coast to Tibet along with every recipe from the equator to Arctic circle.
Vs your analogy
Italian cheese doesn't imply Parmesan or even a hard cheese.
Italian recipes arnt limited to pasta

I do hope China's hygiene standards are improving, and the practice of feeding bees syrup to produce the honey is not good.
And why ruin the lamb with manuka??

You can't ruin New Zealand lamb with anything - it's Sh!t before you start - at least by slathering it in mahooky the awful taste might just make you forget you're eating New Zealand lamb

People still tell me there are no bees in China any more and all fruit is hand pollinated. I get that "you're a crackpot" look if I mention China dominates the world honey market.

Only a very small area in China decimated by pesticides and so the pear crops hand pollinated.. but the younger generation wont bother so that will disappear.

My Chinese d-I-l say Chinese v reluctant to use Chinese produce.. they prefer imports.. madness isn't it.

1300 million people... Average incomes 3000 pound/year.
It depends what you read.

China has a huge history in international trading and Chinese business is everywhere.
