They’re currently in a filed close by and I want to relocate them to the garden. 1/4 mile max.

Wait till winter when the bees aren't flying
I relocate my bait hive every year from the garden on the potting shed roof to my field

When the weather forecast says it will be cold for a couple of weeks. Move them and face them in a different direction to start with. You may still get a few return to old site but if it needs doing.....

If no time pressure, as above (or when there are a few really rainy days as that should come before it's cold), alternatively block up the entrance for a couple of days and do it whenever.

No need if you have a cold snap when the bees aren’t flying anyway

We are going to have do the same. Looking at late January when the hives should be lighter and the bees aren't flying.
