Just found this outside the house and I'm unclear exactly what it is. I assume its some form of hornet or possibly a giant wood wasp but do any of you know and does it pose a threat to our bees? Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks.

It is an Ichneumon fly. They are harmless - the sharp bit on the end of the abdomen is an ovipositor not a stinger.
