Ha ha , they took the British out of their name !

Indeed.. the people on the land mass to the West of Wales did not seem to very much like belonging to an association with British in the title!
But bless them ... they have retained and supported the RNLI ( Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and I thank them and their brave volunteers for their unbridled generosity and assistance off of Baltimore:winner1st::winner1st::winner1st::winner1st::winner1st::winner1st:

Bee Improvement and Bee Breeding Association ( BIBBA) web pages will give further and better advice.

A reasonable discussion was ongoing until, as per usual, Icanhoppit/AKA Cheers etc etc sticks his confrontational trolling oar in. Why don't you try discussing in a reasonable manner for a pleasant change rather than shouting the odds at everyone?
In reasoned reply I can only suggest that all BIBBA will ever give you is their rather slanted biased, almost to the point of racism, unbalanced viewpoint....it's nothing more than propaganda and hemorrhoids. Locating a single fact among their rhetoric is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack.
Read their web page if you don't believe me. Some of the stuff you just couldn't make up.

I have joined BIBBA but must admit I have been somewhat disappointed by the support in sourcing queens or even genetic material to graft from, I understand that many groups are still in their infancy and many trying to improve local Mutts by open mating are struggling to produce good queens in any volume.
this is why I am heading off in my own direction, ultimately my goal is to Inseminate queens from the best colonies with Drones from the other good ones at least that way I have full control over purity and can assess knowing the genetics rather than guess work.
I know it's far from that simple and I will have to continue to source good genetic material to avoid inbreeding depression but who knows in a few years maybe there will be a source of good near pure queens available to the masses (albeit in limited numbers)

No different really to improvement in any type of bee and I'd love to see it fruitful as I like the idea of making AMM's a real prospect to anyone rather than people be scared off by others drawing air through their teeth when they mention that they might try them.

Oh deary me.... a contentious post that will rattle the Trolls and the 'nere do wells!

Possibly Native bees ( Apis mellifera mellifera)

Unfortunately there will now follow a number of posts from those who have little real knowledge of the Native honey bee to the British Islands, doubting even the existence of Amm or how widely distributed it remains..... mostly misguided zealots who single ( or is it simple) mindedly only favour exotic imports. IMOHO !

dare I say....

Shouting does not improve your case.

And forecasting trolling and criticism of AMM and trying to present yourself as a martyr is always unattractive.

Very true for the chalkbrood issue, can you pm me your breeder? Thank you

It may be worth bearing in mind that the alleged breeder may not be the the person who actually bred the bees.

I have joined BIBBA but must admit I have been somewhat disappointed .

Unfortunately many are.
You only have to read the many rants and diatribes of Cheers?Icanhoppit?James Templar? and more (A leading light in BIBBA; or should that be lights plural, given his many nom-de-plumes) to realise that the lunatics really are running the asylum.
But they do run a cracking convention each year.

They did indeed alter their name. It used to be "The British Isles Bee Breeders ..........". But very few people living in Britain were interested in joining, so the name was changed and recruitment commenced in Ireland and from the combined beekeepers of the two islands, they managed to attract about 150. Then in Ireland, the Native Irish Honeybee Society was formed and last year, The Irish Beekeepers Association was reformed after being dormant for decades. Many members of BIBBA have joined one or both of these groups and BIBBA has reduced the issue of their journal to three per year.
It may be of interest to mention that BIBBA has been in existence since the early1960's......one struggles to see any progress having been achieved.

And prior to that name change was originally called the Village Bee Breeders Association, but few villagers were interested in joining.

I am in Leicester, I keep Amm (black bee), the breeder is in Ireland. I use foundationless frames so maybe quite a few of my drones out there loool. They are exactly how Taurus described them.

Don't suppose you fancy saving me a few queen cells do you?

Do you think bees go through this consternation when they are about to supercede?

I think the hive model is one that should be adopted in social evolution..

I intended to do a bit of queen rearing this year so for sure I will save you some as I think I will have too many. [emoji6]

didn't take long for the Buckfast bullies to creep from under their stones and derail this thread did it?

Not very long ago, it was your custom to repeatedly make reference to the "AMM Taliban". Now it's the "Buckfast Bullies". Such delightful inconsistency

It's the language used to persuade others of the rightness of your cause - rather like Donald Trump without the diplomacy :hairpull::paparazzi::paparazzi:

BIBBA conventions are run throughout the UK on a bi-annual basis.
Next is this Autumn at Cirencester.

:sorry: such imflamatory posts and unfounded comments as the above by Beefriendly, about other members and Associations they support should not be tolerated on this forum.

I suggest you retract that statement and personal attack!

Given that you have used forum names Truble and Thymallus and have actually instigated so much disquiet with posts designed to intimidate etc etc.
This is a great forum, crashes occasionally and some of the more long standing posters have had to change names on occasions.
Admin has this under control and accepts the occasional name change... I have attempted to reclaim my favorite name Icanhopit, but have had to use others, only ever one at a time... anyone with a modicum of intelligence can see that
