I use a 2 stroke strimmer and the effect is random. Most days they take little notice, other times they sting. Once they went crazy and attacked the strimmer engine in their dozens, even burning themselves on the exhaust. I had to drop it and run.
Now I always suit up just in case, but usually they don't mind.

I don't bother strimming. I walk a path through whatever grows up. Provides a good screen round hives.

Or occasionally the old fashioned way with a slasher. Keeps you fit!

We find that smoking the entrance as though about to inspect helps, and also wearing thick motorcycle gauntlets as they try to sting hands. A puff of smoke in the vacinity of where you are strimming also helps.

We find that smoking the entrance as though about to inspect.... please expand as I was taught... all be it a very long time ago... that smoke in the entrance when "inspecting" moved all the girls up into the boxes one was about to inspect?

Scythe is good... non polluting too!!

ITs probably sound frquency dependant and that causes the variatiion in response of the bees. Each type of strimmer will produce a different frequency and the petrol powered each may vary dependant on engine and fuel condition.

My strimming was always followed by a swarm within 24 hours. That stopped me using it!
They dont worry about my 4 stroke mower and roundup. You can buy it from an agricultural supplier if you are a registered smallholder and give your number. So if you know a smallholder ask if you can use their number!
