My lady friend has been washing the green house glass with fairy liquid and water.. we have since removed load's of bee's from the greenhouse and they keep landing on her and it was around two hour's ago they are not trying to sting but they are a pain buzzing around her head..is they anything she can spray to make them change there mind and go forage elsewhere and to add to that I thought washing up liquid was poisonous so what is in it that is attracting them.
Thank's
Steve

Snelgrove the hive is 10 yrd's from a pond and stream.. but think I know what has caused the problem.. I had left a crown board in the back of my car which previously had syrup feeder's on it.. I only realised this just after my original post after I had went to close my car window only to find around 30 bee's inside my car.. the car is not far from the green house but I can't understand why they where buzzing around us her more so.. is they any chance that they can link our smell's to any food sources that we have fed them on..

did you remove the crown board and shut the car. if so they were searching for the source of food.

The crown board was in there since this morning so I presume the ones buzzing around us where searching for food ..but why buzz around us do you think they can link us to a food source.. if they have previously been fed by us.. maybe we leave some kind of smell on the feeder's before we get suited and gloved up..

You took away the food source and they are merely looking for it, if bees are robing always leave a tiny piece of food and they will clear it up and stop searching. in my opinion nothing to do with smell off you or your friends

I fed them 3lb of sugar this morning when the sun decided to appear..the crown board in question was used 2wk's ago when syrup was being fed and when I decided to put some candipollen in there the crown board was removed and a clean one put in place the candipollen has been in there over 1wk and hardly touched that is why I decided to feed syrup again today (which will be the last feed I do).. the reason why that crown board was in my car is a different story.. lol.. but it beat's me how they could still find the 2wk old crown board in my car.. and it also has me baffled why the bee's followed my lady friend 100yrd's down the track when she was walking the dog's.. I still love keeping them though and I even have one in the bedroom in a container till the morning arrives.. I found it half dead and cold in my car so I put it in front of the coal fire and give it some syrup and it's playing hell now.. lol . so it's been put in a dark warm cupboard till tomorrow.. I just hope it still has pheromone on it to get back in the hive..
Thank's for your replies..
Steve.

The water in the green house is warm that's why they are there
We have bees in greenhouse and on the moss on the roof even though they have a pond nearby. Even in the pond they favour the moss just away from the water. To get them out of the green house build a Jacuzzi :)

bees have around 30 times better sense of smell than a dog, now can you understand how they found it

They are at it again today they was two dead on the front room window sill this morning and they are still harassing my lady friend and now her sister who had to put a jumper on this morning as they where landing on her while she was feeding the chicken's..they are also going down the washing on the line and landing on the clothes I have sprayed my car with febreeze and they are leaving that alone now they are also leaving the greenhouse alone now we are not in there.. the hive is around 50yrd's away from the cottage and they have more than enough food to go at.. I would like them to stop soon as she and her sister are starting to get sick.. has anyone any other idea's for this strange behaviour that has never happened before..

Thank's
Steve.

Have you considered changing your lady friend :)

I don't believe it to be a water problem by the way they are harassing us away from the green house.. when I say they have a pond it's basically a woodland pond/marsh with more than enough drinking spot's.. thank you for the input though..

I had a colony once that the bees seemed to seek out people in the garden from.

TBHI solved it by moving it to one of my field apiaries.

Obviously nobody has a answer to my awkward question's and the bee's are still attracted to me and my lady friend and trying to get in the cottage.. i have how ever noticed bee's confused around my hive and trying to find a way in around the back and side's which has me thinking that maybe they is a starved out colony not far away frantically trying to find food and unable to gain access to my quickly growing colony.. ??? .

Thank you very much for that as it has me stressed to bit's.. i have had these bee's since June and they have been spot on and easy to work with but i draw the line having the flying at my face and landing on my neck .. i have had my fare share of sting's over the year's which i'm not bothered about on my body but my face and neck don't like being stung.. lol .. like i have just posted maybe they are not from my hive and in search of food..

My bee shed (where I store all my supers / BB's etc.) is near to 2 hives in a garden.

During normal times I can work inside with the door open and no bees bother me but at the moment when (as I believe there is a dearth of nectar) I only have to have the door open a couple of minutes before bees start to find their way inside.

Although they are only bothered about flying around the stacks of sealed supers and don't bother me much I still have to shut the door. (there are openings at the tops of the sides walls so when I switch off the lights they fly out to the daylight).

I'm still curious as to why they are bothering people so much, maybe you all smell sweet!

It surely has my mind boggled why they are harassing us.. it's like i/we are pure Bee love.. lol. we walk 10ft into the garden then all of a sudden Bzzzzzzzz around our head's and often one will land on us .. that has gone on for the past two day's since i done the last inspection even though i have been showered and changed..
The hive in question look's strong and healthy with brood in all stages surrounded by stores with sufficient food artificial and wild forage..
Where's David Attenborough when we need him..;)

My bees are doing the same thing. Don't worry they are just getting warm water. They get into the greenhouse and then fill up with warm water. They fly around a bit looking for the way out. They get tired and seem as though they are harassing you but they really are not. They are just working hard! They need the water to regulate temperature in the hives and feeding is a bit of a trigger for odd behaviour. You are telling them there is food close by and they are telling each other the same but they are unable to say that the food is actually in the hive, so they fly round your garden looking for this food not realising it is inside! So you are getting a bit of a double wammy. Thos looking for warm water and those that are confused as to where the food is!
Our greenhouse can have a couple of hundred bees in early in the day when the compost heats up and before it is warm outside. Put a pan of damp compost in the sun near the greenhouse door and they will soon use that in preference when it gets warm!
