Need a fair bit of kit but it can wait until the sales now. I was wondering how much general equipment costs during the sales from various companies.

Maisies have a one day event late june but the fuel costs down to Gloucester rules it out as a sale for me.

So, how much generally do things like cedar national brood boxes, shallows and dn4/5frames go for when we enter sale season?

Who generally has the best/biggest sales on?

Thanks in advance

Big T's sale prices aren't very different from the other suppliers. Their last winter sale had standard broods and supers at £17 and £13.50 respectively, with DN4's at £29 and DN5's at £37. These are all second quality. I've bought lots of their boxes and never had a problem with them - a few knots here and there, but nothing unusable once you've added metal runners. The frames I've had tend to be more variable.

It helps when you spend to the level where you get free shipping.

Most "sale stock" is declared to be second-quality ie wood with some knots, etc. As such, it also requires assembly.
It should however be perfectly usable.

Thorne's sale 'second' frames in packs of 50 only generally go for about the price of 20 primes. And it'd be unusual to get less than about 47 usable frames out of a pack.

Beyond that, vendors may have some specific items that they are looking to shift for whatever reason. Stock may be very limited (one off even) but prices can be massively reduced.

Paynes are a bit unusual in that their January poly sale has offered a bit of a discount (10/15%?) across the range.

Some vendors don't seem to have sales ever.
And others (inc BBWear) offer discounts to Association members throughout the year.

These were the prices from Thornes Winter Sale, so they is a large difference between prices now in season and in the sale! But items available now tend to be firsts (maybe), so difficult to compare prices, but a big difference if you just compare the price of a brood box versus sale price, and there were some thirds available as well, on Sales Day.

Are the "squeezy containers" as like those for ketchup?

thanks for the info folks - after a few splits and a couple of swarms, I have run out of gear - if any more swarms arrive or any of my hives issue a swarm then I will have to let them go elsewhere/give them away instead of uniting later on.

I have GOT to sell some honey this year to help balance the outgoings on bee stuff - gave all last years honey away to friends, family and work colleagues when I should have sold it to pay for more equipment.

Still, all good fun and would rather have full hives than full pockets

Are the "squeezy containers" as like those for ketchup?

They don't look like ketchup containers at all, but have a similar (silicone?) non-drip valve.

The ones in the sale were actually these http://www.thorne.co.uk/packaging-a...ners/plastic-honey-containers?product_id=2149

I don't like them, as they make the honey look cheap (even though the containers are expensive), and the narrow neck makes them fearfully slow to fill. They wouldn't work with honey that wasn't 'runny'.
But nevertheless they are a less-messy way for my elderly mother to enjoy runny honey...
