I was born in Carlisle and always considered it the north west. The south began at Birmingham.

The only auction I've been to which had live bees was an eye opener. Colonies went for silly prices and I've heard the same about an auction in Sussex.

From my limited experience avoid an auction if you are trying to obtain bees or if you go, take only as much money as you intend to spend. Sowing up your pockets might be wise.

No doubt you can pick up descent equipment but again my experience suggests otherwise. Most of it will be rubbish (enamel extractors etc) but if you want something obscure like a display case for frames of honey or grading glasses you might be lucky. There are usually plenty of books if you like to collect them.

Only been to one bee auction and that was last year, Beverely beekeepers Assoc were selliing off a chaps items for his widow. It was an excellent day. no bees but lots and lots of equipment most went for a price that I believe most buyers were happy at. there was a mint condition (looked new and unused) electric extractor from th ornes and it made I think £330.. a bargain. if extractors could be beautiful then this one was. I looked in their catalogue afterwards and I am sure it was over £900

I have also mapped and calendered these auctions for my own reference. here are the links

any time. I did it purely for me as I need some sort of structure to see when things are happening otherwise I miss them :-/ but I dont mind sharing. I was frustrated that the calendar is out of date order to but on my google calendar version it isnt and I dont know why?

How many of these auctions have live bees ?

Both West Sussex and Sussex have live bees - provided of course that vendors have any available to sell.

If you check with the organisers they should be able to tell you whether any are expected.

I know it's not a BKA auction but these details were passed on to me by my local BKA - it's on the 18th of June at the Bee field Llanigon rd in Hay on Wye,
over 400 lots with 100 hives of fully inspected bees (modified national) radial wax press, stainless radial extractor - all unreserved on behalf of Mr Robin lewis
