Thanks folks - pure luck I inherited a swarm a couple of weeks ago and transferred a couple of frames of eggs and brood into it (no queen) in the hope they would make a queen cell. This little lady had stuck her head out and I just happened to have the camera in the boot of the car!

The result is as seen - and more by luck then judgement :)

Great shot Jdee. It was not luck; you had the camera in the car and chance favours the prepared.

Not Mayo for me this year although I have been there a few times. Galway for a week the up North to Cushendall for a few days.

Only moved over here last August - love the place and room to breathe as well. Galway is nice - apart from the traffic. Live about an hour north of Galway if your passing :)

Great shot jdee lets have many more they say a picture paints a thousand words. Good luck.

Mo no bees

Darren Any time your passing LOL

OK Admin what about a Beekeeping Forum calander?

That's so cute!
(The photo, not the mankini)

A five grand camera certainly improves luck! ;-)
Why use f2.8, a bit more DOF would have benefited the pic loads IMO

lol 2.8 because its a macro lens, it was already on the camera and I really didnt have time to change lens or the setup on the camera - the lady concerned was hatching whatever I did.

As for 5 grand it didnt cost that - far from it - the 1DmkIIIs was that price when they were first released and that was nearly 5 years ago. Mine is the 1D Mk III and I brought it second hand - sadly!

Regards

JD
