One aspirin a day is good for you...

Up to date news?

We were told this at least 30 years ago..

Its nearly as good as the one we see every 15 years ar so that says "Research has shown that the Norfolk Broads are man made and not natural as was always thought they were".

I don't think you're supposed to push them up your nose

After a surfeit of bananas whilst conductiong a week long drugs operation at the Geest terminal years ago I got so 'eggbound' I was prescribed something to sort it out - suppositories they were called - heck of a job swallowing them and they had no effect whatsoever in fact, I may as well have rammed them up my a....................

Jeez, I really needed that little scenario invading my delicate sensibilities just before retiring for the night! Aspirin to JBM's ar*e in 30 seconds...:leaving::eek:

We keep getting told to restrict our sodium intake too- but I take that one with a pinch of salt.

.

Aspirin, ancient drug, rediscovered by modern man. I had a toothache once, when I had lots of teeth that is, took an aspirin stupidly on an empty stomach, and got an ulcer that took a couple of months to heal.

There was something about this on TV quite recently - Dr.Michael Moseley I think - asking two eminent medical specialists whether or not to take aspirin every day.
One said yes, the other, no, and both argued their case very convincingly.
It reminded me of some of the differing opinions on the forum...

'egg bound' with surfeit of banana- eat a banana skin... will quickly rectify... apparently.

And saves time - no peeling! but then again, if the skins were nice to eat we wouldn't be peeling them in the first place!. Luckily the situation won't arise again as I no longer work the banana shedsIn case anyone has a pick - we were randomly selecting pallets of boxed bananas and opening selected boxes in case of contraband. The importers quality control staff do the same - but looking for ripe bananas so we were working in their sheds thus saving time for both parties. Any bananas who arrive in this country ripe have to be removed as by the time the whole lot has spent time in their ripening sheds will have rotted and contaminate the whole batch. The removed bananas went to landfill (or eaten by whoever was wandering around) as a young single officer working away this meant that consuming bananas meant not spending my meals allowance on food but instead buying BEER! :hurray::cheers2: But the consequences of a diet of morning greasy spoons and over a dozen bananas a day were quite eye watering.

Indeed, and just like beekeeping it depends how you estimate the costs or risks against benefits. Aspirin increases risk of bleeding in the stomach. Both experts agree that the equivalent of a quarter tablet a day (75mg) has proven benefits, but increasing the dose increases risk with no extra benefit. Both experts agree that for anyone with a heart condition, the benefits of aspirin outweigh the risk of bleeding. Both agree that for a 30 year old with no heart problems, the risks outweigh the benefits.

The difference is that one suggests a 50 year old with no heart condition indicated would have bleeding risks but minimal benefit. The other suggests even the admittedly small percentage chance of avoiding a fatal or debilitating heart attack or stroke incident offsets the risk of bleeding which is very unlikely to be fatal or permanent. That's the summary as far as I recall it of 10 minutes or so of debate.

What happens is that despite vast area of agreement, TV journalism and forum debate alike spends most of the time picking at the difference in conclusion for a limited sample of patients. By the second page we've forgotten the 90 something percent that can be agreed.

Tapes worms were once eradicated using the "banana and mallet" technique .
One daily inserted a banana up the rectum for 6 days , on the 7th day the banana wasn't deployed, causing the tape worm to appear ,looking for the banana whereupon it was despatch with the mallet !
Tape worms did not become immune to this treatment :D

Just be careful you smack the tapeworm with the mallet and nothing else dangling down there

That's the first time I've laughed on the forum for seemingly ages...

Sure it was the aspiring, Suzi, not the bottle of gin you washed it down with?
