Are you confused by what is going on in the Middle East?

Let me explain.

We support the Iraqi government in the fight against ISIS.

We don’t like ISIS, but ISIS is supported by Saudi Arabia who we do like.

We don’t like Assad in Syria. We support the fight against him, but ISIS is also fighting against him.

We don’t like Iran, but Iran supports the Iraqi government in its fight against ISIS.

So some of our friends support our enemies, some enemies are now our friends,

and some of our enemies are fighting against our other enemies, who we want to lose,

but we don’t want our enemies who are fighting our enemies to win.

If the people we want to defeat are defeated, they could be replaced by people we like even less.

And all this was started by us invading a country to drive out terrorists

who were not actually there until we went in to drive them out.

It's quite simple, really.

Do you understand now?

Well, whatever has happened in the past something else is afoot soon.
Jets, reconnaissance aircraft and helicopters of all kinds have been practicing in our valley about ten times more than usual in the last four days. It's like living near Heathrow again.

It is the eleven, or thereabouts, commercial jets at Tripoli airport that fell into terrorists hands recently. They will be practising in order to destroy them before they can be used as suicide missions (on the 11th of this month, particularly). Here is a link to the aol page.

So why don't we all just thin out of there - leave them hack or blow themselves to pieces, then when the dust settles roll back on in there and help ourselves to the oil (which is what is all about as far as we're concerned)

And not a peep about poor old Lesotho

Spot on JMB, it's always about power or energy and energy is power!

It's a complete ballsup on a grand scale.
We have tried to impose democratic systems on a people that aren't democratic and never will be as it is against their religion to be democratic.

it will end up in another war.

something is afoot yes
military helicopters and jets buzzing around again. last time it was like this we went to iraq.

It's really quite simple.

The religion of Islam split in 632 AD into two factions: Sunni and Shia.

Both hate each other with a vengeance which makes the Catholic /Protestant wars and the Inquisition of the Middle Ages look like a vicar's tea party (sorry Dusty).

As the two sides view themselves as THE true religion, killing the others is a religious duty.

And it's been like that ever since.

Sunnis are the majority in the world..

Shia nations include Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Azerbaijan and, according to some estimates, Yemen

The rest are Sunni.

Support one and you make an enemy of the other...

And the most powerful Sunni nation is Saudi Arabia - which produces the most oil.

And we expect to involve ourselves in a 1400 year religious war where no quarter is given on either side.

(Northern Ireland conflicts date back over 300 years and the Good Friday Agreement is 16 years old.. and there is not yet fully peace.

Prorata the Sunni Shia split and any peace settlement (which is not even considered) would take at least 70 years to conclude..

And we think we can solve issues within a decade.)

The worst thing is SWMBO is supposed to go out there next month to troubleshoot the orphanage's administration side - and it's her last chance as she won't be released then for three years - she's heartbroken

one of my sons went out to Africa to start a three month tour of duty yesterday, bit further north though, Kenya.
That might be her fall back if all else fails - Uganda - she doesn't really mind if push comes to shove although she will find it difficult to keep her head down with their atrocious ant-gay stance

It all kicked off when they changed the price of a barrel of oil from $ to euros........strange no euro key on my laptop !

I have met some very nice Iranians and Iraqi people it's just the Extremists that are a problem in any country and religion

No, apart from diamonds, very polite people, courteous children to the extreme and top rate honey.... and a lot of water!

Well ... we could certainly learn a lot from their people but, from memory, the only operating diamond mine there now is owned mostly by a foreign company with just a small percentage retained in Lesotho ... some very big diamonds found there though ! Perhaps we could engineer a world honey shortage or a scare about chinese honey ... give Lesotho a commodity worth fighting over ?
