Hi,

I took a photo of these bees which look just like honey bees but the patterning is different. They are 100% bees and are the same size as honey bees. Any ideas?

100% hoverfly - got your national, now when you doing your beekeeping course?

I got my national and my bees in May, read Hooper (along with three other not so good books) cover to cover and got my self a mentor who's helping me through difficulties. I think I'll be popping up my local BKA when they kick start again next year.

I thought this was a hover fly too when I first saw it but it was flying just like a bee. and looked just like a honey bee. I've never seen a hoverfly like it. Anybody got a latin name for this? With this colouration it can't be hard to identify.

Cheers

Hi there.

I would call it: Eristalis tenax (the second pic)
The first is I would say the one you found out. E. pertenax.
