I have been using air freshener for uniting for a couple of years with no problem so....when my move to Somerset left me with a badly mated queen in one hive and a good laying queen in a nuc I decided to dispose of the bad queen and put the frames from the nuc with the good queen straight into the hive. A quick squirt of air freshener into the hive, a quick squirt into the nuc and wack them all together. One more squirt for good luck and hey presto, no fighting, no nothing, they just got on with life and accepted their new new queen as though she had been there forever. It makes life so easy I don't know why I bothered with newspaper and queen cages etc!
Worth a try if you need to get things done quickly!

I looked at doing this but just dont trust what is in the cans . Lidl do one powered by 'AIR' but im just not sure its safe or good for the bees tbh .

I just use haze vanilla. Works for me. Good knows what is in printed news paper so...

Been using Glade Magnolia as it was on offer in the cheap shop.
Works a treat and have been using it for a couple of years.
Still doing newspaper unites for full colonies.

What is a quick squirt? Over/onto frames or across the tops etc? Thanks.

A quick press onto the top of the frames. Really doesn't take much.

Thanks enrico. Might try next time.

Does it matter if you make direct contact on the bees?
