Hiya Bee Keeping friends,

am new here. So go easy on me :)

I have some large amount of honey from India. I was wondering if there is a way I could do a test to see if it's pure. Or are there any labs that would do a test for cheap price?

I don't know if I am asking in the right place...

Anyways if anyone can help would be great.

Thanks

My information may be out of date, but I recall seeing an EU ban on Indian honey reported last year. Antibiotic levels too high I think it was. You may need to show the import was outside the period of any ban, first step might be to check with DEFRA if it's already in the UK.

Indian? More likely Chinese 'laundered' in India. Probably high in antibiotics and pesticide residues. See the 'scam' in the USA thread.

Get someone to phone trading standards on you, they will then test if for free! But the draw back may be some time spent in jail for importing illegal Honey.

Isn't that a somewhat wild and unsubstantiated allegation???

Lmao@Winker

Anyway - this link gives you where to contact for honey testing services. Dunno if they can help but they say they can and no doubt if it's wrong someone will then help with a better link: http://tinyurl.com/5tnp5kk

Was that an allegation? I only said 'more likely'. You perhaps need to look up the amounts of Indian honey exports over the years and compare to recent figures and read up about the honey flavoured corn flakes in the US.

Try this thread:

Just out of interest, what would you do with it if you could import it legally?
Would you have a market for Indian honey?

"Isn't that a somewhat wild and unsubstantiated indignation"???

Fixed.

Here's a bit more info

Why import such a risky product that also has the possibility for infecting UK bees if they get access to it.

There must be a heap of beekeepers with a surplus still to sell in bulk or jars.

It still looks current to me. See http://bit.ly/vUhQWL and the attached document.
