I think the first question that should be asked of anyone thinking of taking up beekeeping is why, what are your reasons; as in for e.g. Maximum Honey/Not interested in Honey/want to make money/Want to spend lots of money/Just want to keep some bees/improve the genetics/Amm's only to the point of death/ save the planet/Flow hives rule/Top bar hives/Natural beekeeping/Let alone beekeeping etc etc.....a separate book could be written to suit each of those requirements.

It's one of the sad things I find about most books on beekeeping, the author seems to assume the reader will want to keep bees the way he/she keeps their bees. Or like many local associations will insist you keep to "their" methods and strains.

Great idea, but difficult task.

If saving the planet for future generations means encouraging real beekeepers to keep our Native Bees ( Amm especially Cornish Amm) then I am fully behind it!!

But whose opinion would you take?
JBM is right about the syrup bit
What on earth would happen when we started discussing swarm control?
Maybe you and PH could collaborate on one. At least there would be only two sides to your discussion

I thought the rule was always to have 1 additional opinion to the number of beekeepers?
Are you telling me the books have it wrong? 😀

I am surprised at the reaction esp the mod.

What work?

Ss its very simple. If there are differing views its quite possible to just say, there are various views and here they are then have sub-chapters giving the views. Hardly rocket science is it?

PH
I know, we could have an online rersource, different chapters for different topics, different views could be aired and the reader could make up their mind what they think is suitable, we could even make it interactive so questions could be asked and answered, a 'softer' section for complete beginners or those lacking in confidfence, and a more rough and tumble section where more robust views could be aired, we could call it........
The
Beekeeping
Forum!!

Not rocket science is it? :D

Good God - we can't even collectively decide on how to mix 2:1 sugar syrup!! :icon_204-2::icon_204-2:

Perhaps the important bit is that regardless of how you mix the imperial 2:1 ratio for sugar syrup, the bees take it down anyway.
Some just make it in a more complicated and expensive way :D

P.S. How we doing for getting this on every thread Erica /Big Grin/.............

And therein pollute everyone else's so called Amm's with Cornish genetics.
And it won't save the planet......:D

It all depends on whether you like to put the sugar in first or the water shirley?

You can be far too serious at times, PH
What work?
The work patrolling the brickbats and ensuing carnage or perhaps its me being too flippant

:D

We could get Phil to do an article on the flow hive or I did see him in 1 video turning a tbh into a compost bin inc bees

All the relevant information is embedded in the forum already but it would be a mammoth editing task separating the wheat from the chaff and compiling a cohesive guide from this.
