Hi Looking to purchase 10 nucs /colonies within the next few days to start new apiary project ,, I am in south staffs but will travel to collect ,
Thanks Mark:bigear:

you are at the very edge of the nuc boxes coming through the winter, i would thing all of the over wintered nucs have allready got someone name on the and the winter lossess are whats driving the sudden rash of bee hive thiefts. your only hope is to either pay well over the odds and i do realy mean top top dollar to get ten so quick or to find an bee keeper come doggy gizza and dont ask questions.

i think if your lucky you might find some bee keeoers are already planning or starting there breeding so you will have at least 30 days to wait for un mated queen nucs to come on line, i must admit any if at all nucs i do wont be STARTED till mid april so ready mid to late may

why cant you do ten split offs from what you already have??

i suspect it would be easier to what Pete says than get 10 nucs..

you could probably get 10 one plus year old queens quite easily from people requeening who already have their queens on order. (if you offer to catchem when they requeen will save them time hassle and queen squishing)

take a couple of frames brood + nurse bees from your ten most populated hives, put each in a nuc for a couple of days to let them establish they have no queen, along with (if possible drawn) frames.

introduce elderly queens to start laying and build up nucs quicker, while either procuring new queens, or use an 11th nuc queenless to rear some queens to replace the oldies (or just keep them for later superceedure)

Would you travel to West Wales to collect said nucs ?

LoL, Say what you mean and mean what you say. Staffs bee keeper will travel :sifone:

Thinking about it, what's the half life of a Japanese honey bee in the present circumstances. I can just see them sipping water from the puddle outside the reactor building.

Apparently the damage to the semi-conductor industry is likely to be significant because

Hi Guys thanks for the replies ,,

, I have I admit I have dropped one :blush5:
I have 3 sites near to my home all within a 3mile radius, so asking about for a newsite a little further away to expand a little this year ...
I have been offered a dream site some 10 miles from home over 1000 acres of rape planted and plenty of natural forage growing. A realy big concern anyway I promised to do my best to get 5 hives on site asap as he is very keen, great thinks I then he says "then there is another site 3.5 miles away by the river that i need bees on when you have the first site up to around 20 to 30 " ok I can probably get some on there later in the year ,

we go to the farm office to exchange phone numbers and he says "then there are the other 5 farms the family own that we are looking to site bees on",I did choke on my tea..

ok the hives i have are spread over three sites with room for expansion at two so rather than mess these about (Sorry Disturb them) now whilst they are building up I recconed to aquire 10 nucs /colonies if possible to move onto the new site and then split later to populate the site by the river,

well I Know I will have to educate this guy a little on bees and the way they work but this is an excellent opertunity that needs to be taken I think.. As he is prepared to work with me to make this work,

The best place I know is the forum for me to get the help I need hence the need for ten nucs.

thanks Mark

Please forgive my scepticism and poor attempt at humour in this circumstance. Your explanation has cast a very positive light on a picture, which appeared a trifle rose tinted at the outset.

But hey, don't let your serious endeavour get in the way of a good story line and people just love it when I grovel.

I wish you good fortune with your endeavour. PM sent.
