Does anyone have experience of these? Any comments on effectiveness or build quality would be most welcome. I am planning on buying one - probably the 50kg/hour Lyson model (also supplied by Abelo). I am particularly interested if anyone can give any information as to its suitability as a heather press as this would be its primary use in my operation.

Kind regards,
James.

Slow and lots of bits/wax still come through with the heather honey making straining/filtering it a rather more time consuming.

Fine with the cappings of ordinary floral honey, build quality is good.

Thanks for the reply Pete, too much wax coming through with the heather honey was my main concern.

If you don't mind me asking what method do you use for heather honey extraction? My situation is I would rather not spend the best part of 4K on an automatic loosener but things have to be speeded up somehow and if that's the only way then so be it.

Its a shame that there don't seem to be any large capacity heather presses on the market - ideally I would like to spend less than 2K.

Regards,
James.

I would love a good answer to this question as well. My current thoughts are similar to yours in that 4K for the automatic loosener or £1600 for the manual foot pedestal one is a lot of expenditure for someone like myself extracting only 4-500lbs of the stuff each year. Plus I'm also told you need radial extraction due the slightly greater centrifugal forces.
The advantages being you retain your drawn comb but it adds up to a possible slow process. It's not that I'm not prepared to pay the money but I'd really like to know from someone who uses them how quick and efficient they work.
Or you crush and loose all you drawn comb. Hydro presses, work on water pressure and really work well, but slowly if you want to extract all the heather honey. http://www.vigopresses.co.uk/Catalogue/Fruit-Presses/90-litre-Hydropress-91320

There was a Swiss made press similar in design to the old Mountain Grey Heather press that uses electrics and air pressure to force the honey out, but is no longer made (so I'm told).

I'm going to see some orchard cider makers shortly to see what sort of presses they are using.

I have just ordered a dual purpose uncapping table with a built in wax melter with the intention of using it for heather.
Hope I have made the right choice here.

Just thought I would bump this back for thoughts please. I am taking my bees to the heather for the first time this year.
Will my cabinet (wax meter) work or do I need to invest in some other equipment?
