    Efb

Phew, thought I had EFB in one of the apiaries but sbi confirmed it was just a frame of abandoned brood. LFD used. At least i got to see and use an LFD, better than just reading the instructions. Now have a couple of spares for me to test with just in case. No substitute for the confirmation by...

Just got back from one of the apiaries and in one colony I have had two queens since last August. They were on the same comb together but the problem is that there are three frames of sealed brood but some of the brood is mixed drone brood. Now the problem I have is which one is the drone...

    Drone Colony

I am planning a larger expansion next year, and I have another site given to me to use that I plan as a queen rearing apiary. I could probably get about twenty hives on here so that gives you some idea of the space. I want to setup a couple of drone mother hives so I can try to flood the area...

    Three queens

On the 3rd July i found an unmarked queen where there should have been last years blue one. So i marked her white, finished off and closed up. 30th July i could not find the new white marked queen but i did find the original blue one. Now i am confused. Yesterday, 24th August, i found the...

    Drones

I thought i would put a couple of mini nucs in our back garden, as we usually place them in an out apiary for mating. This was done just to see what results i would get. Today i found about fifteen drones all dead with their sexual organs showing as in the picture. Can anyone say if this is...

    Those with many colonies

My wife asked this question to me, and i am wanting to know the answer as i couldn't explain it to her. All those with more than about 40 colonies, how do you go about working them etc? Is it done with so many a day or do you do them all at once? Do you have some kind of routine? How do you...

    Cell Incubator

Having just seen the warming cabinet that MrB has made, has anybody attempted to make a queen cell incubator? I have seen them going for well over £100 and thought this might be a good project to build if it is possible.

    Brother Adam Frames

Can anybody tell me how to make the frames that brother adam used at buckfast where the frames were cut in half for his mating nucs? I can cut them in half no problem, but it is the hinged part that i am having problems with. The idea was that the two halfs could be put back together and the...
