I don't think there is a job I don't enjoy doing if you compare it to my real job

Making frames, mixing syrup and a few other things, do you enjoy doing them HM!!!!!!

Boiling old frames in soda to sterilise them
Smelliest job ever:ack2:

Really, try some bone dry crumbly rotted wood and the smoker will stay lit without even puffing it

Or pet sawdust at 49p a packet from the cheapy shops. (Might have been B&Ms)

Agree with Redwood, the best I have found is dry rotted wood. Place pieces in the smoker upright if possible as it leaves a bit of space for air to circulate.

I have never tried the sawdust but I was using a big bag of T's wood chippings which worked OK but tended to block off the air circulating, and there was a lot more tar deposits which quickly clogged up the perforated plate in the smoker lid.

enjoy making frames - as for syrup, that's why I go to the extra expense of invert (saves the headache of reading all the 'sugar bargains' threads as well!, and the perrenial how to make syrup tirades)

Mard! You wanna try culling a chicken

Or a hound
or a calf
or a horse

shavings at £5.50 per 33kG plastic wrapped bale

From?

Sounds like a good price - have seen 25kg bags for about 8 quid. It does all come down to delivery costs though.

(Not that I need that much for my smoker)

Now culling a politician on the other hand.... :paparazzi:

Disease control - I know it stresses the bees in the short term when applying treatments; and I always feel guilty about drone culling for varroa control. They produce those drones for a reason and always have a pang of guilt when removing drone brood.

A horse bedding supplier near Brough, East Yorkshire. Probably a bit of a long journey for you ;)

Yeah a bit far. :)
I'm after some straw for my plot so I might try the horse place someone's mentioned to me not far from here. I can have a nosey at what else they have. Don't need any sawdust at the moment but might do by the middle of next year.

Yep, hate doing that too. But needs must ......

In fact the last one I did, I was so keen to do it properly with minimum distress to her, I pulled the chicken's head clean off. Bleugh!

Cannot think of anything i dislike, if it is connected to beekeeping, then i enjoy all of the various work that needs to be done.

I can think of one HM. I used to move 600 triples (2 deeps and a super) to apples by hand, and a week later back out to the apiaries. Small wonder why I hate moving bees.

I don't pay for rotted wood, It only takes a little walk in a woods and in five minutes you have more than enough to carry, unless you know a tree surgeon then he will be more than happy to give you some.

Jusat make sure it's only rotten wood you've collected - remember, not evrything that is brown and sticky is neccessarily a stick, especially if you have dog walkers about
