Were they covered for long?

Yes, too long. That winter I learnt the importance of hive insulation. My next visit after the photos were taken, I discovered a roughly half inch gap between the hive walls and the snow where the heat from the hive had melted the snow.:hairpull:

Link goes to Norfolk Honey
We've esc aped so far which is a good thing
The barn owls have had a tough enough time in the rain already
Try the link now it works.. Is it snowing with you the farm has snow.. And I've come back to more... Time for a game of monopoly :LOL:
The rain has been bad here to. chickens are being kept in and I've let them in the tunnel to eat the lettuce/ winter greens.

We had six flakes of snow fall this morning ... the warning went out that trains may be late and buses could stop running .... the locals live in mortal fear of the white stuff ....people already panic buying in case their overstocks of Covid rolls run out ....

Lovely photos! We had an enthusiastic fall of big fat flakes here yesterday but it didn't last long and melted shortly thereafter. I am on the valley floor here though.
On the downside, I haven't seen the longtailed tits for 2 or 3 days now. :(
