The roof of my top bar hive blew off last night. It smashed into a national hive about 3m away knocking off the mouse guard and moving the empty super on top, the bees seem ok.

Hopefully they didn't get too damp.

Had that last year, I'd just combined two weak hives, gale blew the roof off WBC two days after. I poured with rain overnight, and they flooded out.

This year, they were weighted down with slabs and scaffold planks.

Harsh, you think thats harsh, you should see my m8's setup.:)

Reinforced legs. Both hives and bees? Are they on Heather? I think you'll find that you're supposed to extract the honey from the bees before pressing :)

I have over wintered three hives this year, it worked for me :)

I strap my hives down to a paving slab

the only problems i have had is when feeding fondant in cold weather in that the ratchets can freeze to the roof as 4" of insulation under the roof means the bees do not heat it up

I ratchet strap the hive to my stand which has the legs buried, then i put the roof on top to protect the mechanism of the ratchet strap! then a a couple of bricks to secure the roof..........:hurray:

SB - of course - 'scuse my maladjusted sense of humour :) Wind has been blowing well over the last few hours. Mine are sitting on pavers, with ratchet straps under slab and over roof. If that lot blew away, the pictures in the newspaper would be awesome, as my beehives are composed of one integrated solid concrete block and hefty hive, with 10000 bees for effect. Painful, whichever way you look at it.
