Well I got a phone call this afternoon, a neighbour knew I had started Bee keeping and said she had a swarm come down her chimney, I thought that sounded a bit strange, so went around and her front room had a few bees in it but there was a huge humming coming from the log burner, it turns out that the bees have made a nest in the chimney and the colony has got so big part of it collapsed and fell down the chimney a bit further, all the bees where a bit annoyed. So opened all the doors and windows, opened up the fire place and they all scooted out and up and back down the chimney, she is quite happy for them to stay there until we can figure out what to do or how to get them out, as they have just had the chimney re-pointed and a new liner put down. I think it might be the case of having to disconnect the chimney where it comes into the fire and knock the nest down from above, unless there is a set procedure for doing it. The last thing she wants to do is call environmental as all they will do is kill it. Any ideas welcome.
