Why are they starving?

I’ve noticed a lot of chat on here about starving bees and how we are feeding them all, but what is it down to? Is it the colder weather? And I’ve noticed big differences geographically between my hives in south wales compared to mid wales…. Any ideas?

June gap and poor weather perfect storm! May be picking up here now.

Another reason is the lack of looking into hives and making an assessment of stores, people are put off looking into hives in poor weather, when a simple heft of a hive, any time of the year, would determine if action is needed and then open up. Regard it as a time sensitive operation.

well, the flow has finally started and the girls have been bringing in lots of nectar for the last 2 days...Last Friday I was doing the round of the apiaries feeding and adding frames of honey!!
