I saw a red-eyed drone today. One of the genetic mutations in drones. I see the white-eyed every year, and the chartreuse-eyed rarely.

You say that but I’ve seen pictures of white eyed workers so we could assume some manage the deed……

If it's recessive or polygenetic that could explain the workers without the drone successfully mating.
