Hi Folks.

First post here and first year bee keeper.

Anyhows, Im looking at vaporising and the different options. I don't think I can justify a Sublimox so have been looking around. I have a Swienty poly hive so the gap is only a single bee space.

I see Varroax for about £107 is frequently mentioned. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Varrox-Va...990038?hash=item3aeda310d6:g:01EAAOSwo0JWL6yN

Simon the beekeepers is a bit cheaper: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Varroa-Ox...184054?hash=item48930464f6:g:6sAAAOSwPCVX46f3

Home made looking one but my concern is the depth of the pot: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oxalic-Ac...522429?hash=item4d5ab87f3d:g:3ZgAAOSwax5YoczH

El cheapo Russian import? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-40W-O...461452?hash=item3ae7d2e5cc:g:tJgAAOSwq~tZRc1E

Someone posted this german butane vaper earlier: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oxal-Acid-...e=UTF8&qid=1502704345&sr=8-13&keywords=varroa

Or is there a homemade option? Bit unsure now, hard to justify spending so much though. TIA.

Justification ... it just works ;)
Borrow one to be convinced.
Joint association purchase possibly (in which case spring for the Sublimox)
Get and use the necessary PPE

I've got a varrox and am happy with them.

£2.99 12v water heater off ebay + 58p 13mm plumbing end cap (screw together type).

Put the end cap into the heater coil - works for me.

For the Swienty poly hive put the subliminator under the mesh floor (the floor on those is removable so if the acid affects the floor it's easy to replace.

If i ever had to buy a new one i would go for the Varrox from the list of links you have put up as some of them cheaper ones look like they will not last two minutes or even work properly, be careful what you buy, i was watching a video the other day of a fellow comparing two different types, one gasser had melted the product into vapour in 2mins 30 seconds and the other rubbish one took nearly 5mins, just imagine the load taken from the battery if every hive took 5mins.

With starting with one hive in June its hard to justify such a large expense considering my initial outlay already. I think I should mention to my association however as I know there are members that use this method, maybe an expensive one shared out would work well.

I decided to go with the home made one at £40 and put it underneath the OMF.

Thanks for the replies.
