Hello beeks and peeps…

Anybody now where to purchase decent mesh for making floors? I've only found one place on the internet (The Mesh Company), and at about £8 a sheet for Langstroth size it seems a bit pricey!

Any ideas of where to get something a bit better priced? I want to knock up a couple of floors as none of the floors I can buy are constructed quite how I want them to be.

Thanks!

I tried with the Mesh Company. Not a great experience.

used mesh company with no problems, Simon the bee, keeper is also ok. it's pricey wherever you look

Simon the Beekeeper seems much cheaper thanks, but 'approximate sizes' especially when already 'cut to size' are a little risky for me… particularly as 10mm and 30mm to short for my purposes in each respective dimension.

Hmm… tricky…

I've bought mesh for national floors from Simon. The "approximate" size only varied by 1 hole width from exact. I assemble by sandwiching the edge of the sheets between the top edge of the sides of the floor base and a lath screwed down to provide a gap for the entrance slot. A few mm error is irrelevant. If the mesh edge projects I trim it off. Simples.

I remember collecting mine from Peter in Conwy. He regularly posts on here and will probably let you know if he is still selling .

In the USA, they use a material called No 8 Hardware Cloth which is 8 strands per inch made out of wire that can be cut with decent scissors - all the stuff I've seen in the UK can only be cut with tin snips or disc-cutter.

I got lucky last year - I found an old fire guard at a car boot sale for 50p and got two OMFs out of it.

The Mesh company was relatively cheap a few years ago but looking at their prices now they are more expensive and a lot more than inflation

I waited 3 week for a delivery of Stainless Steel mesh! It did come but not after the usual lies!

It was similar for me. Took several emails at a time to get any response and they never arrived. Ended up getting a refund after starting a Paypal dispute.

Have a look on the auction site for modelling mesh. It's aluminium and can be cut with scissors quite easily. It does flex but it's under the hive and doesn't get any stress so it should be ok.

We use the Mesh Company... can not beat price on bulk orders
Last week ordered 50 sheets National sized... arrived next day.
No advantage in Stainless as far as I can ascertain.
We do fix it in with stainless staples however.

never had a problem either and at just over £2 p/s on galved mesh that will do nicely. they do clearly state at times it will take a day or two to cut before sending. but people often fail to read and understand things like this. they find it easier to use criticism

I did read and I did wait, but over a month with no communication? Suggest you re-read your last sentence.
