Noob question...Hi just wondered what people's opinions were about the different types of suit and the pros and cons....just when I've seen folk using the hooded type they seen to press against the head on some pics and wondered if a bee could sting through it...?

Cheers

The little girls sting through several layers if they try hard enough.

Used both. Feel safer in the hood, except that it splits and lets the little darlings in, and you won't know until they tell you.

I found that the cap thing didn't work, but you may find otherwise.

I found that a round one won't go in a washing machine but a hood will.

I prefer the fencing veil type. I had a round veil before. The fencing veil suit I have has lasted for several years with no splits to the veil and it's slung in the back of the van and used pretty well daily in summer. It comes from a UK manufacturer rather than overseas and works out to be much better value than a cheapie.

I have just bought a new suit and it has a fencing veil. I found it a bit floppy so invested in a round bee hat (made by Manlake) and it works a treat as even in pretty strong breezes it keeps the veil material away from my face ears and neck and personally the most painful stings for me are at the back of my ears so I am well pleased.
Only quibble is the interior harness in the helmet is pretty poor quality but I will mod that to suit.

This also happens with the round style. The top of your head and forehead is pretty tight against the fabric so there's little protection in that area. The main part of your face is definitely better protected but it doesn't make any difference as you can still be stung on your head.

I got stung twice on the forehead while wearing the round style and looked a complete mess for a few days. I'd recommend a hat under both styles but personally prefer the fencing style.

Now I like that idea! I wish I'd thought of it myself. :thanks:

Have tried both sorts of suit/jacket - and have ended up with fencing veils in the end, as my head is too big (!) for the round hat ones.
