Take a frame from the super, hold it by the lugs and turn it upside down (bottom bars pointing to the sky) holding it above the other frames, then give it a few short sharp downward shakes/jerks. If the honey is unripe, drops of honey will spray over the top bars in the super, if it is ripe, very little should come out.

What about a super that is half full, having both sealed and unsealed honey? Leave it on until spring?

I wouldn't - extract it and if the overall water content is too high, feed it back to them

I see.

I thought it was only honey that was sealed that should be extracted.

That’s what I’ve done in the past anyway.

I've just extracted my last five supers of mixed ,capped and uncapped.
It's come out at 20% and is back on the bees today
