What happened in my colony please?

Folks,

It's distressing me a bit that, as a result of my question, the thread had become so bad tempered.

On the actual question, I've re-read my notes, and (while I'll never know for sure) the notes do not say I moved Q cells. In fact, because I had the step-by-step notes printed out, I think it's more likely that there were no Q cells on the frame that I moved.

In any event it would please me if this thread is now closed.

This thread is not bad tempered... polluted by some 'interesting' suggestions and these have been challenged but you will find this on the main forum. I see no reason to close it.

I think your situation was confused by some inaccuracy in your original post and perhaps some confusion about what you actually did by those who have tried to assist with explanations and suggestions. It is important- if you want clear and conclusive answers to a question or the solution to a problem to provide the fullest account of what you have done and what you have seen as a result. Bees are not constant in what they do in any situation and if you layer that with confusion about what you actually did then you will get a wide variety of responses. Just saying .. not criticising. If you want a slightly calmer life we do have a beginners section where people are expected to play nicely...

Don't you think a new beekeeper should learn how to inspect a hive without killing a queen? Should be able to do it with ease? Much better a new beekeeper stress a few bees than to let the colony die when it swarms from a varroa infestation.

Look at it the other way more likely a queen will get damaged mishandled by more regular fiddling and the bees turning more defensive due to disruption of the colony. The latter being caused by stressing bees as well as stress promoting other issues.

In my opinion new beekeepers should inspect hives as often as possible. A minimum of once every three days

I'm saying as much as possible but ideally once every three days and thats my opinion. Maybe not the large body of opinion but its mine. Until you can read one and that's certainly not in the first two years unless they have access to numerous hives of someone else's

Different points of view are to be expected when a thread goes a bit off track with some posting dubious routines and disrupting colonies endlessly.

Unusual postings that goes against most teachings need challenging other wise the gullible will follow suit and then the next thing we will here is that my bees have become angry/defensive or I think I have killed the queen.

One needs to have a reason to carry out manipulations and not just for the sake of it to look for eggs every three days.

This can be quite a fractious place at times but mostly it's good natured and enlightening ... and for the most part entertaining and informative... sometimes you have to just take the rough with the smooth and move on. Theres always a new thread to explore and if you run out of current threads ... theres always the back catalogue !

Start to understand how to respect people and talk to them respectfully. That's no way to talk to people. Who died and made you the god of beekeeping? I have my opinions you have yours.
