Things like, the flowers in your garden will bloom for about 16 hours, then they'll all be fertilised and curl up and die.

They don't tell you that when it is hot, you worry about swarming. As soon as it cools, you worry about syrup and winter stores. When it's really cold you get a break from worrying... until someone mentions woodpeckers...and then you start to worry about stores again until you worry about swarming.

That they can make a grown man cry for several reasons, pain, frustration, lack of money, the beauty of a first crop and exhaustion through sleepless nights!

"all you need is a smoker and a hive tool"

They never mention that you will need a huge shed for all the other equipment you will buy.

How about a Mann Lake National Hive is not a National Hive..... you get home with your nuc to populate the hive only to realise the frames don’t fit, not even close.

Then to make matters worse, having made the Newbie doofus mistake of buying said hive, Mann Lake desert the UK market so you have defunct bas**rd boxes that are only good as firewood

The bees seemingly cover my car in poo. Cought one in the act the other day.

They don't tell you that bees will take over your thought processes - wondering how everyday objects could be useful in beekeeping and end up taking up space in the shed or garage....
How you'll lay awake working out a strategy for the colonies, only to find it all changed at the next inspection....
How wretched you feel when you make a serious mistake....

That your wife will start to ask why the white sheets have yellow spots all over them when she was drying them in the garden!

And not just your car, but those of your neighbours too (shhhhhh don't tell them!)

Oh and they don't tell you how seemingly everybody is interested in bees when they find out you're a beekeeper :)

Everyone tells you how much they like honey when they find out you keep bees

Indeed yes the first time, not so much the 2nd time and by the 20th your card is well and truly marked as a "BEE BORE" a person to be avoided at all costs.

Nobody tells you how much equipment you will end up with.

Also any person who gets stung by a wasp, bit by an ant or pricks their finger on a thorn when gardening was really stung by one of ' YOUR ' bees...!

And also ' YOUR ' bees have moved into my bird box, there must be almost 50 of them.
