Hi Pargayle,
What are you going to do with the comb you have to cut off. Are there brood in any of it?

I'm going to leave it in there, not cut it off .. at present there's just stores in the comb at the bottom. It's an unconventional hive so there's no harm in leaving the frames as they are.

Just need to change the design a bit on the next one !! This is the problem ...

last week I put a super on a cast swarm I had 6 week ago, today I checked the hive and will be adding another one this week, amazing bees, probably something to do with the weather lol

And some sealed brood and lots of eggs.

Yes ... there is on this frame but the others (which I didn't post photos of) are mostly being filled with stores at present. The frame in the photo was next to one that has just been drawn out and she's laying like crazy in that one .. sorry to cause confusion !

Today is burning as hell, 40 celsius.. Started preparations for winter ( excluders out, box swapping places, etc.) but this weather is slowing me down.. On water is crowded and hornets have their feast..

Spent this am at Association apiary helping others and the Bee Inspector scrape hive parts and burn frames, foundation and dead bees after an AFB outbreak.

Not great.

Received a phone call last evening from the SBI who will be visiting tomorrow. Had he of phoned earlier could of saved me the job of inspecting them.

I received an email weeks ago stating I fell within 3km of an EFB outbreak, oh well better late than never. So will I get some sort of paper work confirming clean bill of health if nothing found which I'm more than confident of?

Not good then ... followed by a bath in washing soda I would think ?

Any idea where the outbreak stemmed from ?

Lol

Wearing Association Beesuit.

It is suspected that there was a jar/barrel of imported honey left empty but uncleaned - suspicion suggests Leek - two miles away.. No prior history in the area.

It's a bugger isn't it ? I'm getting to the stage where I think we should consider banning honey imports from anywhere there is AFB ... ahhh ... well, that's probably everywhere then ? Parochial ? Me ?? Nevvvver ...

question

I took a swarm 2 weeks ago - rather it arrived in an empty hive - but there always appear to be twenty or so bees on the landing board just hanging around whilst other bees fly contently in and out. Any idea why this is or what it might mean?
thanks in anticipation
