Yesterday I also reconfigured some demaree colony’s put them back to double brood because some colony’s are back up to 9/11 frames of brood in the bottom, I need to think of another way where I can save on boxes don’t demaree double brood use more nuc boxes? Queen rearing I like the idea of having 100+ nucs going.

up at the castle, performing a Demaree on a hive that has been happily ticking along with 9/10 frames of brood the last few weeks and no signs of swarm preparations but I chickened out - also putting clearer boards on all the hives up there as they really piled in the hawthorn, with two to three supers ready on all hives.
Noticed today and yesterday that the 'June gap' is definitely over, any brood frame shaken is spraying out fresh nectar from the clover and bramble.

Ah. I was thinking more along the lines of moral support rather than slave Labour. 😉
Moral support from your arm chair in the shade drinking and merrymaking .
But it’s child slave labour, did I say that out loud!

Realised I hadn't emptied the solar wax melter dish.

Cleaned the overflow of wax from the inside of the melter.

Haha... snap ... I did the same today and mine leaked melted beeswax through the bottom of the melter onto the patio slabs I scraped it up when it had solidified but.... I think there will be a permanent shiny patch there which I'm going to have to find some plausible excuse that does not involve me or the bees ...

PS: Just been out and watered all her bloody tubs and baskets and as luck would have it I've moved one of the bigger tubss to cover the evidence ....

Use landscaping the garden as an excuse and play up the artistic licence angle. She'll think you have found your hidden Charlie Dimmock side. Well, maybe not ................

Is it too hot for the bees? First thing in the morning I had bees showing interest in a nuc box. Thought, here we go. The day warmed up - we had 27C and not a bee appeared, 7.30pm cooling down and they were back. Too hot midday?

No it’s not to hot……There’s many other parts of the world that regularly see higher temperatures.

Thanks- dead bees swept up & floors removed. Will see what happens. Didn’t see lots of hairless, black or trembling bees hence didn’t think of CBPV.
Lots of very shiny bees though in that dead pile….. I had CBPV last year in one of my hives so I’m always on high alert if I see very shiny bees.

Returned Queen Elizabeth to the hive I split in May. She’s been in 3 nucs before returning home as each time they built up so fast and started making swarm preparations I had to keep splitting them…..
Anyway, popped her in a cage with fondant plugs for 48 hours. By the time I went to release her, the bees had already done the job for me and she was happily wandering across a frame.

What is going on ! I’ve split 6 triple nucs into 12 ffs I’m having to use extensions as nucs with a dodgy floor and roof .
14 6 frame nucs are laying marked the queens today 9/10 trust in the polished cells if you can’t find the queen laying queens are imminent.
My incubator has 56 cells in it some are lying down on there side which doesn’t seem to make much difference to them emerging.
Picking up some equipment on Friday and my last made up 12 supers have just gone out .
I’m stopping grafting now I’m done , I’ve requeening loads this season so far .
Doing a vidual on Saturday night probably Sunday also .
Enough said!
