What did you do in the Apiary today?

What a change today. The home apiary is in a nice sheltered spot out of the worst of the wind and the girls were out in their thousands today, clouds of them. Lovely to see.

Cleared some fallen tree from the apiary, chains awing the burn able stuff. Bees quite active from all hives. Later checked and topped up fondant as required. Cleaned up two poly nucs (used as bait hives) ready for the inevitable failures to prevent swarming.

Only slightly off-topic but I drove past the field where I was offered a corner to stick the bees in. It's very visible from the main road at this time of year which would put me off, but the main thing we noticed was it was flooded.

Glad we turned it down in favour of the garden!

This next week we'll be moving the hives more than 3 foot, within the garden. Getting it properly set up.

Nothing is of topic Japey..;) ..i remember seeing that site that you where offered and even dry it was certainly not ideal..your gut instinct saved you wasting your time with that spot..in your Garden you can be hands on everyday which is much better than hives stuck in the middle of nowhere..

Yes good to see you will have to get him his own hive and young eyes are good for grafting, back in the day my parents biggest issue was buying more boxes that I kept filling!! Good thing is even if they take a break when women and beer become far more interesting past times they have an interest or background that they often come back to. Ian

My hives are active today in the sunshine. bringing white pollen in. I thought the weak hive would fail but touch (cedar) wood , it seems to be very active today.

Great stuff!! What does he charge by the hour? I might need a hand soon.

Hourly rate is probably going to be a quarter pound of sweets from the sweet shop.

I'll have another son to help just now my wife has given birth to a son on the 3rd Angus is his name I've got a small team now of 6 children.

Waded through 6 inches of water and mud to put fondant on. 38mm today so far near Chichester and fed up with it.
