Thanks… I knew it was a beetle and it was on my Alder, but didn’t think to google ‘Alder beetle’!Oddly enough it’s an Alder beetle!
Here in this part of Dorset we’ve had a plague of them this year. They “arrived in force” last year and defoliated my alder twice, then this year again, defoliating it as the leaves unfurled. It’s pretty much a goner
This year they’ve also attacked hazel.

It’s trying. I’m just waiting for this year‘s beetle larvae to attack it again.The tree is likely to survive.
