Thats a good call getting the RBI to take a look, often two heads are better that one, especialy when its the RBI.

Are polished cells a good sign that the bees are expecting action very soon? I don't suppose that they would have done it if the queen wasn't expected to come into lay shortly. Product specialists that they are. Good luck.

When bees make empty cells in the upper centre of comb and polish them, it it is a goo promise that queen has mated. The queen has 2-3 mating days.

But my experience is that don't make stupid "average" information how many days something happening takes. At least I handle every hive as individual. Experinece gives me skill what to do but my skills or "my average knowledge" does not lead a queen's life.

You have a queen in the hive or not. There is no average in that.

It lays or not and nothing average in it. It is not halfway laying because mating depends on weathers. And if it disapears nothing goes according average.

When you rear queens, much may happen before a queen lays in the final hive.

*************

When queen is laying, then start the most exiting period to me: should I cast some queen away if it shows signs of diseases in the brood area or does its new baby workers point me with their sting when I open the nuc. Some are poor layes. Some are so small size but when they start to lay, no problem.

Over all queen rearing is full of exitement. Nothing goes as I have planned. It makes it interesting.

We have not a queen. We have president but she is so old that she does not lay eggs. But her drone does lay. The president is on average 165 cm tall, I suppose. Yes, what is the average lenght of European president?

You mean lying down as opposed to standing up?

I would say Sarkozy is under 165cm whatever way you measure him.

Quick update

Checked this hive today between rain showers. 3 frames now full of eggs. 1 per cell so fingers crossed this hive is now ok. Didnt bother looking for queen as weather not good.

VEG. I have a hive that SHOULD have a queen laying. It will be 3 weeks since she emerged in 2 days time. Quick look today and there's a nice arc of stores, but no laying.
I've also got a couple of small colonies that should have had a queen at the same age, but there's no signs of action either. Maybe the weather was poor when they mated or attempted to mate. I'll see at the weekend - maybe put a test frame in and see if they try to raise a queen from there to be sure. The pain is that these queens were from a gentle mother who has since dissappeared. Pleased yours worked out OK.

I had my doubts about this one as time was getting on but sorted in the end.:cheers2:

Just done another inspection on this hive. I have not seen the queen. There is now 5 frames of eggs/brood in various stages. All eggs in the bottom of the cell 1 egg in each. Now heres the thing there were 2 queen cells in the middle of one frame. There were fresh eggs in the frames so i know the queen has been there in last day or two. Whats going on? they are drawing out the last 1-2 frames in the brood box and there was about 7/8 frames of bees at 6pm today. Should I put a super on?
The bees are a lot calmer than before as well.
