Hi

I have been storing an old nuc box with a couple of frames of foundation and a couple of old drawn combs in my loft for the last few months.I go into the loft for the 1st time im a week today and am confronted with hundreds of wax moths

They have completely ruined my frames and the nuc box (their silk and cocoons totally glued everything together.

What a mess :banghead:

I'll be making sure my wax is moth proof from now on that's for ****** sure!!

Perhaps this needs to be a sticky as a warning to other new beeks?

Those hundreds of waxmoths would also be out hunting for more victims, too!

As a new beek myself this is the first year i have some drawn comb. Check on the frames stored dry in bin liners a few days ago and found some wax moth having a feast. All frames are now in a large chest freezer. think i got them just in time.

The original plan was to spray certan on them and store outside when it starts getting cooler.

What would the best way be to store the frames in future?

I have found that the smell of an old piece of api life var seems to keep them at bay!!!
Store all my hives in a sealed dark room and leave an old stick of the api in there and so far had no problems. Once left an old hive over winter in the garden and it looked just like your photo's

Burn suphur strips regularly, fumigate with ethanoic acid, freeze for 24 hours (on a regular basis), seal properly when certain they are moth-free, spray with certan, store where it is very cold...

All standard practices to choose from.
