Stung by a wasp today.

:spy:

OUCH!
with a capital "F"
So why is that?

I was expecting something similar to a bee sting and was quite releaved when there was no sting left in my finger to remove. :bump:

My initial thoughts were, oh great, this will all be over quickly;
  • just a short sharp zap,
  • there'll be no swelling,
  • I probably ought to take an antihistamine
  • but no itching for days after,
All in all, relieved that it wasn't a bee sting.

I was perhaps, a little mistaken. :sos:
:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:
It still stings over an hour later. My finger is pink, swollen, throbbing & burning like you wouldn't believe.

So why the difference?

Ones acid, ones alkaline I believe, could be why, I'm sure someone better qualified will tell

Ya big puff.. :D , i usually get stung several times a year for no reason, i got stung on the forehead and the palm of my hand last year, this year up to now i have pulled safe, however i get no reaction apart from a little itch around the spot for around 5 to 10 min's then its as if nothing has happened, obviously you will know to keep an eye on things if you get that kind of reaction.

Wasp stings hurt even more IMHO!
I was stung by a wasp on the cheek a couple of years ago. The whole left side of my face was swollen. I couldn't see out my left eye for a couple of days, it was so bad.
Be careful with wasps!

You get stung by wasps, or perhaps the Pythons could have worded that better Millet?

I've been stung by them plenty of times before, mostly when scrumping as a kid but enough times since. Like you say I expected some irritation but also expected it to be less than a bee sting.
I feels like a scald, still burning now after about 12 hrs!
I suppose it didn't help being on the good half of my numb hand so probably more sensitive than normal.
Last year I got one bee sting right between the nostrils! That really was something to remember!
But was still all over after 5-10 mins (apart from the itching).

OK, time for a glass of Barone Ricasoli's patented Wasp-sting cure! (2009)
:cheers2:
