Fera are on the ball !

With the on-going poor weather, there is a real risk of bee colonies starving. Please check for stores in the colony and if in any doubt feed your bees. You should feed with either a fondant or a thin syrup.

Further information on feeding bees can be found in Best Practice Guideline No. 7, on the Advisory Leaflets page of BeeBase

starvation

Too Late found one colony already dead from starvation -gutting!!:dupe::nopity:

"do they know its springtime at all"

:eek: Panic master has just gone into the garden at nearly 11 oclock at night to put feeder on hive just in case.
Dont think next week will bring nectar so while its not raining and blowing too hard.
hope they find it before it goes cold.

Can't be too careful.
15th April ,all hives bursting with honey brood all stages pollen , everything pointing to an early swarming season . One week later I supered up 3 hives as they were congested .
15 days later, IE today I've checked the hives , queens have stopped laying . supers(containing drawn comb ) have hardly been populated .
One of the supered hives hasn't a skeruck of food , unbelievable , I had to back track and borrow two full frames of stores (14x12) to give to this hive .
All other hives have sufficient stores . This hive doesn't appear to having been subject to robbing !!

Agree!

Came home early, as good weather, to do a decent inspection. 9 days ago three frames of stores. Today two half frames. All the capped stores round the brood frames being emptied. Fed 1 litre 1:1 and will top up unless weather stays good. Still brood on 6 frames though so.
