ventilation?

If teachers don't turn up due to a mm of snow or the school shuts due to lack of teachers, do they get paid?

In industry it's the responsibility of the employees to get to work. If they don't turn up they take as leave or unpaid holiday.

I grew up in rural Banffshire (North of Aberdeen). We lived 4 miles from school and cycled every day except when it was very icy when we walked..

Still managed to get to school almost every winter's day despite heavy snow ,, the only time we did not make it was when the drifts outside our back door were 4 meters high in 1963..

Funny thing in my country was that women were not allowed to use throusers. 60 years ago.

My senior school headmaster lived across the road from the rear of the school with his own personal gate in the fence. No amount of snow would stop him and any class without a teacher would be corraled into the hall where he would sit on the stage and keep order. :judge:

Doesn't seem to work like that now :( Every one is at work. The shops are busy. The 'planes are flying. And the teachers are at home due to too much snow. And the kids are at home and their parents have to take a day off unpaid to look after them.

Sorry - off topic!

Here the science bit
if you lose high proportion of the heat through the roof there is less to lose through the vent, and if you lose high proportion of the heat through the roof you get even less to go through the vent as there is less buoyancy to drive it out.

So can't lose what you have already lost lost and and if you lose most of it, the little you lose through the vent is even smaller.

But the converse applies. So for those that have poly or you are adding heat or adding insulation... This means definitely don't top vent

we stopped digging people out who came down our unmade track whenever it snowed to 'play' in the snow in their 4x4's ... just lent them a shovel instead
