Hi Folks I am a fairly new beekeeper just into the second year. I have a colony with a high count. Beebase calculator recommends treatment ASAP. There is a new young queen not started laying yet, no brood or eggs seen today. (following a swarm that I had missed) There is a super with only two frames of honey.
I am looking to use a vapouriser and oxalic.
Is this the right route to take? Could this effect the queen?
Thanks

Go ahead with a vape/trickle you should be fine with a single shot if you have no sealed brood

Hi
Went ahead and treated with Apibioxal (vapourised) there has been significant mite drop. Colony unaffected queen now laying well.
so a good result.

The best way to keep on top of varroa is treat at the back end of autumn..I vape Oxalic acid three four times five days apart..upto six and seven vapes for a troublesome colony..
I then give the hives another vape at the end of December..if a big mite drp happens to any colony I vape again every five days till the mite drop is none existant.
Doing it that way I am yet to worry about Varroa at this crucial time of the year.
