I understand where you are coming from now now , i vape under the open mesh floor from the back of the hive using my home made inspection trays with a removable slot.

Glad youve said that about vaping as I was thinking of doing it that way but wasnt sure it would work, all my hives are on Jenk's under entrances

It works fine but you have to remember to clean the mesh floor from underneath now and again as it gathers some crystals which can partly block the mesh if you are doing several vapes over 5 day periods.

or a block of furniture foam, easy

With the advantage you can wet the foam and give your bees access to water while they're shut in.

Regarding underfloor entrances, if you go to you-tube and search for "underfloor hive entrance" you'll find a video of some that I've built. They have worked great for me. I've had no problems with mice and they do a nice job minimizing drafts, which in my climate can be a real problem.

A lot of us are fans already. We have a resident designer and plans published here
