Queen still laying, bees quite active in the frames and hives starting to get lighter. Is it too early/late to start giving them syrup?

I have spent the day taking feeders off!
Some syrup still in feeders... bees not interested.
Usually this should have all been accomplished before the 5th November.

Two family deaths and a bit of major surgery plus a heart attack have somewhat delayed my beekeeping.... did take the opportunity to Sublimox another 30 colonies tho.

Wassail !

They wouldn't be able to reduce syrup for storing I would be using fondant or soft candy .

Nectar dessication is a very energy intensive process so they need low losses from the combination of temperature and nest conductance. Which is a more complicated way of saying the above is correct.

I'm not one to use big words derek:paparazzi:

How ever I wouldn't want to be taking frames out this time of year but each to there own.
It's bad enough taking the crown board of and putting fondant on the top bars over the cluster .

Would your advice be then to feed syrup?

He only offers advice when it makes him feel good..as we are beginners we ask stupid question to the lords above.. but these stupid questions are not stupid to the beginner..ignore him and wait for a reply that suits you from someone Nice.

Syrup needs the bees to work and right now that's not a good idea.

Fondant on the top bars is my way here.
