When I was a beginner I found Finman's advice about keeping big colonies a problem and a puzzle. I had questions likeuestions like...... How would I stop them swarming if there were so many bees? How would I find the queen? How could I increase my number of hives if I was forever combining to ensure big colonies?

Now some years down the line I see that by following his advice I get much more honey than most people around here. I know his advice is correct about having big colonies if you want lots of honey.

It's not all about the honey though.

.
Honey yield depends on pastures.

The amount of foragers depends on beekeepr, what kind of queens he selects and how he handle his hives.

But it is sure that 4 box hive is not able to gather honey much because there is no place where to put the nectar when a huge flow begins.

I had small hives like you 45 years ago. They could not store 120 kg capped honey like my hives do now.

Our professionals use all excluders. Some use it the whole year. Some put it in the hive at the end of main yield. There are many ways to use it.

Llllllllll
