It varies.
My bee buddy and I started off the cold way. We've now got one hive the warm way.

What way do you orientate your frames, and why?

I've gone for cold way with open mesh floors.

Coming out of the winter we might see if the losses were higher 'either way' and discuss whether this had any impact on the winter survival of a colony.

Some will have experience over the years and might share this.

I had all mine the cold way last winter and had no problems, they all came through..........even 1 drone layer !
This year I have some either way, this suits me with my present layout as it depends whether I work at the side or from behind the hive according to the stands I currently have. I am not expecting to see much difference after all I have a 16'' square mesh hole 20mm below the frames.
Also had a couple of nucs last winter which had 14x12 frames in and the bottom of these was visible through the entrance hole as the nucs were home made by their previous owner and could house either std or deep national brood frames, I imagine the bottom of these frames was certainly cold in the -18 we had at one point

Warm as i like to inspect from behind, no other reason

With OMF floors it makes no difference apart from how you like to stand and work the hive.

Warm way, 'cos I prefer to stand at the back of the hive instead of the side when inspecting.

 mine are the cold way, as the were hives i inspected on my corse, works for me as i stand to the side to inspect , first year of bee keeping so i have not over winterd a colany yet.

Cold, stand at side, but also it seems that all pics I've seen of wild colonies seem to be cold way

cue links to pics of wild colonies warm way now :)

i do the cold way on a solid floor my mentor says its down to preference he has been keeping bees for 50+ i think if its not broken dont fix it not worthy

in my 1936 Robert Lee WBCs there is no choice..... cold way
ie frames lugs on runners placed at front entrance and opposite at back of hive
not either side

how about the infamous rotating hive?
