The egg marketing regs. state that on the egg box or a notice at point of sale there has to be the statement " keep refrigerated after purchase".

We don't store our eggs in the fridge and never have, but that's what the regs. say!!

Same as milk; I remember one uncle who drank a full quart of mil - over a litre - straight from the cow (still warm, not even in-churn cooled) every morning, whenever he came on holiday to the farm.

Nothing quite like fresh (non-intensive) fresh farm food (or home-grown).

When you say straight from the cow...

You are doing your bit dp but I bet a lot of people still think food comes from supermarkets only and not originally from farms and that is why the countryside is not one big playground.

I think all school age kids should be required to visit farms, slaughterhouses and food processing plants. That would, at least, make sure they know where their food comes from. It might even encourage some who wouldn't have considered it to go into farming.

Once upon a time there was a subject called Rural Studies which covered Agriculture and Horticulture. Our local secondary school kept cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry along with a large 50+ foot cold greenhouse and two heated greenhouses. They stopped in 2000 because "it is too expensive to run" despite the fact all the enterprises ran at a profit.
