floating pontoons might be a good idea for next year

Well, it does sound as though ITLD's hive configuration (though not designed for it) seems to float fairly stably.
Strapped poly hives with a wooden floor?

/ How long before someone proposes dunking as an alternative to hefting? :)

I must not have kept up with the forum over this period as I did not know of your troubles. It’s very good to hear that you were able to save so many. Sounds as though it was quite risky trying to manoeuvre the boat through all that. When seeing all the flooding on the news and hearing such stories as your makes me realise how lucky I am to live in this part of Norfolk, as far has I know there has not been any serious flooding here since 1958is. ITLD I wish you and your bees all the best for the New Year.

Its a poly hive just sitting on a poly floor, BUT, the floor has four outer corners that the box somewhat engages in. I think you can see them in the albums section. Straps are for migration only and are only left on if there is a risk of badgers etc pushing them off.

About half of the hives were still sitting on top of their floor when we got to them, albeit with the feeders and roofs all off, but we have either recovered or located everything now.

Thanks also for the goodwill from everyone, but it all pales into insignificance compared to the drama Pete/Hivemaker has had the last couple of days.

Brilliant. How long did it take you to build upto 43 hives.

My father started the bees in 1950.....he was up to 43 hives by about 1957 or so. We currently have about 2700, and would have been well up on that had 2011 and 2012 not 'holed the ship' financially so to speak. Customer pressure is for more and more. The next generation share the vision and we have great staff (mostly anyway) and some on here have met some of them.

Whats happened to Pete's hives, did a search couldn't find anything by him.

Thanks Murray, I know she was fairly ill last year / earlier in the year aswell. I am not going to bother Pete but if you speak to him pass on my best wishes for Sue. (Kevin)

I am thinking about launching a Noah's Ark hive..

Send an Ark our way please, more hives underwater again, stacking alives ontop of deads to save what remains, site remained completetly isolated from last floods so were struck again! What a year!

Speaking with my boss in Australia the enviroment agency sent out helicopters when his hives became isolated to move them 6 years back, wish we had that here!

If only we all had such powers!

Good luck with the hive rescues.

I still think Murray should have used Thunderbird 4 rather than the Unimogs from POD 5 and used the laser cannon to cut through :)

(With special thanks to Gerry Anderson (1929-2012))

glad to hear you managed to rescue most of your stock, Murray.
