This hive(s) have got me really confused, but I think I know the trigger, but trying to work out how I could have overcome it.
On the 15th April 2014, acquired two overwinter nucs, 2-3 frames of brood, and 2 frames of stores, on six frames.
On Friday 18ith April 2014, moved into nationals, added 5 frames of foundation, and left them to it, after a few days, (plenty of forage OSR and fields beans in the area), I was surpised that they were not drawing foundation, they were building brace comb, so placed 1:1 syrup feed, and they started to draw frames.
Today, it's possible that one of the hives has swarmed, plenty of bees at front of hive, and swarm in hedge (which had gone, by the time I arrived to collect).
I'm confused, because I do not have many brood frames to inspect, but I understand if the queen cannot lay anywhere, then that's a trigger to swarm, but if the bees are not drawing foundation quick enough - how do I win?
the foundation that was inserted was new and fresh, blown over with a hair dryer and was fresh when inserted and bees introduced.
These are inspected regualrly every 7 days, on Sat/Sun.
Comments, should I inspect today, providing whether is good, even if they swarmed today, to check for sealed queen cells?
or at next regular inpsection on Sat/Sun ?
